Wagon Wheel

Written By: Bob Dylan, Ketch Secor

Recording Date: Apr 1, 2014

We first heard this performed by a band with the unusual moniker of Father Paul and the Fireside Prophets at a fall fair where we were doing sound. It is from an uncompleted song that Bob Dylan was writing for the movie Pat Garret and Billy the Kid and was discovered after many years by Ketch Secor, a young bluegrass musician who fronts the band The Old Crow Medicine Show. Secor wrote the lyrics and only performed it live until he’d worked out a co-authorship agreement with Dylan. It’s a great song to play at jams with lots of room for everyone to do a lead but, for us, the best arrangement is guitar, bass and two vocals. We’ve been playing this one for a lot longer than Darius Rucker; although, we do admire his version too.
